Privacy

Exuvia is a collection journal. It works without an account: until you sign in, everything you record stays on your device and is sent nowhere.

What stays on the device

Animals, journal entries, photographs, the species catalogue and your settings, in the app’s own database. Deleting the app deletes them with it.

What reaches the server once you sign in

  • Your email address — it is the account.
  • Animals, entries and photographs, so the collection follows you between devices.
  • A name and a picture if you signed in with Google or Apple. Signing in by email carries neither.

Photographs are uploaded straight to object storage through short-lived links, into a space of their own per account.

AI

Species identification and condition assessment send the photograph and the animal’s journal to Google Gemini and read back an answer. The picture is not used to train the model. Identification works without an account, in which case the allowance is counted against the network address so the feature cannot be abused.

What there is none of

  • Advertising, and advertising identifiers.
  • Behavioural analytics and trackers.
  • Sharing your data with anyone beyond what is named above.

Signing out leaves the data on the device. To remove it from the server, write to hello@exuvia.app and the account and everything attached to it will be deleted.
